Hearing Aids

Our Process and Philosophy

How we price our hearing aids

Sono Audiology is an "unbundled" hearing aid clinic — and that's the biggest way we differ from most clinics you may have worked with. Here's what it means for you.

Most clinics are "bundled": you pay a high upfront price that includes years of future appointments, usually tied to the manufacturer warranty. The catch is that most patients end up paying for services they never use.

At Sono, you pay a lower price upfront for your hearing aids, then pay for services only when you need them — a cleaning, a programming change, and so on. In our experience, this fits most budgets better, and it lets us keep prices down because we're not guessing how many visits you'll need over the years. If you’re looking for hearing aids in Gresham, Portland, or the surrounding area, give us a call today.

How we pick your hearing aids

There's no single right hearing aid for everyone. Through our consultation, we'll match the best options to your hearing loss and your lifestyle. For some people that means top-of-the-line devices; for others, simpler technology is a perfect fit. In fact, research shows most patients gain little from having the "latest and greatest."

That's why many of our patients choose our Access Hearing Program, which fits previous-generation hearing aids at a much lower cost. The difference between generations? Usually not much. Dr. Greenaway compares it to phones: a new iPhone arrives every couple of years, often with only minor upgrades — and hearing aids are the same, with most improvements aimed at the toughest listening environments. If you love the newest technology, we've got you covered. If you don't mind slightly older tech, you can save a lot with little trade-off

How we deliver care

Because we don't have a brick-and-mortar clinic, we provide all care in your home or by telehealth - and we think that makes our fittings better. Fitting your hearing aids at home means hearing how they sound where you actually spend your time. Want to check how they handle your kitchen, or your TV? Perfect. After the fitting, most follow-up adjustments can happen over a quick video call, saving you time and travel.

How we make sure you hear your best

Great hearing takes more than great hearing aids. Imagine getting a knee replacement and skipping physical therapy, expecting the hardware to do all the work. Hearing is the same: getting the most from your devices takes a little ear-and-brain training, too. So every fitting at Sono includes auditory training with LACE Pro and a toolbox of resources through Orelo Hearing courses. We also set clear hearing goals at your consultation and return to them throughout your care to make sure we hit the target.

Prescription Hearing Aids

Sono Audiology works with all the major hearing aid manufacturers. If you already have hearing aids, we’re here to help you get the most out of them. One of Dr. Greenaway’s passions is helping patients get the most out of the current tech.

When you are ready for new hearing aids, we’re here to help you find the right fit, whether it’s your first set or it’s time for an upgrade.

OTC Hearing Aids & Other Solutions

Traditional hearing aids are a great solution for most people with hearing challenges, but no one size fits everyone. At Sono, one of our passions is finding new and non-traditional solutions for better hearing, especially for patients with mild hearing losses and auditory processing problems.

OTC services include consultation and recommendation, fitting optimization, and follow-up service and care.

Lace Pro & Orelo Hearing

At Sono we know that hearing aids are amazing, but they’re only one piece of the puzzle - they’re the hardware. But to meet your goals you need more than just good tech. You need tools to help get the most out of that technology. That’s why Sono Audiology proudly partners with Lace Pro and Orelo Hearing to get you the most out of your hearing.

Lace Pro is a self-paced auditory training program. Think of it like physical therapy. Would you get a knee replacement (hearing aids) and not do your physical therapy (auditory training)? You could but you’ll never get the most out of the new knee. Same goes for hearing! Lace makes sure you brain is getting the most out of your hearing aids.

Orelo Hearing is an online aural rehabilitation video course designed by Sono’s own Dr. Greenaway. Orelo courses include easy to follow videos about using and caring for your hearing aids, communication strategies, and hearing in tough settings. It’s the
